from the start
Robert grew up outside of Sitka, Alaska and moved to Fairbanks when he was 5 years old. He had 9 other siblings and only 6 of them made it to the age of 47. His mother, Maria Netty, made him start playing the piano at the age of 8, but he wasn't really interested, he was more interested in candy and cooking. by age 23, Robert E. Netty, quit playing and persude his passion of making candy bars.
The netty was born!
Robert E. Netty got married July 1939 to Willamina Becnaylor, and about 9 months later their first son Mark Netty was born! Robert E. Netty opened the Netty Co. in 1937. His first factory was an abandoned house where he and his wife made chocolate. Right next to the abandoned house was a cacao tree, and they used that as their source of chocolate. In 1943 they made the peanutbutter marshmallow center, and up till 1944 the first candy bar was made. They named it after their family, the Netty.
A short time later in 1946 Robert changed the name from Netty Co. to D'Juneau for a catchier name; D'Juneau became a big hit and later on Robert E. Netty made The Chena. But shortly after Robert died in 1950, the oldest son, Mark Netty, took over the company. In 1951, Mark got married to Prescilla Macentosh and they had seventeen children, and when they became old enough they helped in the factory. Later on they made more candy bars, and in 1955 D'Juneau became a big hit.
